INSTRUCTOR BIOS

Dan Floeck

Mr. Floeck’s background is in retail and wholesale. Prior to purchasing H.L. Flake, Dan ran 70 auto parts stores and their distribution, as well as several bicycle shops. His experience with computers has helped the H.L. Flake Company to grow 30 fold since 1988. The accounting software by Microsoft and the internet web site leads the industry. This technology, when blended with an appreciation of the day to day difficulties of running a retail business, allows the H.L. Flake Company to meet the customers’ needs.

Kem Dowden

Kem Dowden owns a 95% Automotive only locksmith company in Austin, Tx, One Call Lock and Key with over nine years of experience. They have the slogan ‘One Call does it All,’ the meaning behind that is they make it very hard for customers to find a vehicle that they cannot make keys to. Kem has been doing eeprom/mcu key, cluster, ecu, and bcm programming for several years. In their class they will show you how to program keys when there is no way available to do so via OBD2. They will also teach about transponders themselves, so you know what inventory you must actually carry to be successful. There has been a trend in the automotive industry to have vin number specific transponders for cars, meaning you cannot buy an aftermarket key and program it via OBD2. For these instances you either must order the key from the dealer, or you can get the specific data and load it onto a generic chip yourself and program into the car.

Safe Work for Dummies - Harry Sher 6 CEU Hrs / 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. / Thursday This class is designed for the locksmith who turns down safe service calls. The major learning objective is to add the very profitable specialty of professional safe servicing to the full service locksmith’s offerings and to build the locksmith’s confidence and ability. Many safe lockout service calls (perhaps half) simply require the correct dialing sequence and as many as 90% do not require container penetration. A book covering these procedures will be provided to each student. The class will cover terminology, identification, combination changing, dialing diagnostics, and opening procedures such as manipulation, drilling, change keyhole scoping, etc. This class is not designed for the expert safe technician nor will it make you an expert. It will enable you to start learning and to begin earning money immediately doing safe work. It will help you recognize your limitations, so you will feel confident with the work that you do and the work that you refer. The student will learn what technical information and tools are available and you will be able to make an informed decision as to what tools to add to your arsenal, and in what order. The student will learn about professional organizations for, and how to network with, other safe technicians. The student will learn how to secure GSA container work and how to access the hot line, provided free to the locksmith by the US Government. Safes
