TRANSFORM Strengthening the present Building the future

What is TRANSFORM?

TRANSFORM is the ‘Transformational Leadership Program’ – a development program designed to strengthen the leadership capability of senior officers, managers and leaders in The Salvation Army, who already demonstrate strong leadership capabilities and have potential to be considered for senior/executive positions in the future. The program is built around the attributes and competencies within The Salvation Army Capability Framework.

TRANSFORM operates at multiple levels: Individual:

Transform the individual capability of participants

Team:

Transform the effectiveness of the participant’s current team and setting Transform the future effectiveness of the organisation by intentionally working to develop the next generation of senior leaders

Organisation:

We are now inviting applications for the 2016 TRANSFORM pilot program.

What does TRANFORM involve?

TRANSFORM consists of a series of residential events, supported by a range of development activities undertaken before, between and after the residential events. All elements are compulsory, and work together to increase the leadership capabilities of participants over time.

TRANSFORM activities support a 70:20:10 approach to development (see model at right). Learning through education is a relatively small part of the picture – learning through experience and learning through relationships with others are critical parts of the program commitment.

A number of key ‘players’ help the participant maximise benefits from the program: The participant drives their own development and progress The supervisor provides support, role modelling and encouragement The learning partner provides specific guidance, mentoring and coaching SLD or TODD1 staff connect periodically with all players to seek feedback, clarify program expectations, assess progress and identify additional support and resource needs Launch:

Available places:

A total of 20 places are available for the pilot program, with an expected mix of officers and employees from across divisions and territorial headquarters.

Selection process:

Stage 1:

Application supported by appraisal documentation and references from supervisor and DC or HOD

Stage 2:

Interview with member of SLD or TODD

Stage 3:

Selected feedback tools

Stage 4:

Consideration by final selection panel

Is TRANSFORM for me?

To determine if you are eligible to submit an application, consider the criteria below: Are you an officer or employee with significant experience (at least 5+ years) in a senior management and/or leadership position? Can you show evidence of ongoing development and improvement in your leadership capability? Are you prepared to be part of a Christian faith-based development program? Are you willing and able to commit fully to all aspects of TRANSFORM as outlined in this document and in the application form? Do you have the support of your supervisor to apply for this program? You must also be able to demonstrate that you meet the selection criteria outlined in the application form.
