Ein Diskurs des Terrors hat viele so in Panik versetzt, dass sie in blindem Vertrauen einen Militärführer unterstützen,der behauptet, die guten alten Tage der Stabilität wiederherstellen zu können. *When the enemy speaks clearly* There was something in the air. This past December 9th comrades Chiara, Mattia, Claudio and Niccolò were arrested and ccused of attempting to dismantle a part of the TAV (TurinLyon high-speed rail) construction site of Chiomonte on the night between May 13th and 14th, 2013. Nobody knew who inside the movement was going to be damaged by this and for what articular reasons. But the way the TAV supporters responded in the press and all major media left no space for doubt – it was lear there were going to be major consequences. Another red flag was the fact that Chief Prosecutor of Turin, Giancarlo Caselli, announced he would retire early: it’s hard to believe that such a prominent figure would leave the scenes so quietly. Quando il nemico parla chiaro Era nell’aria, l’operazione che il 9 dicembre ha portato all’arresto di tre compagni e una compagna, accusati di aver partecipato, nella notte tra il 13 e il 14 maggio scorso, all’azione contro il cantiere del Tav di Chiomonte. Non si sapeva naturalmente chi sarebbe stato colpito, né precisamente per cosa. Ma il ritornello ripetuto ossessivamente negli ultimi mesi un po’ su tutti i media nazionali, dai più noti esponenti del trasversale Partito del Tav, non lasciava spazio a molti dubbi. Ai più attenti non era poi sfuggito l’annuncio del procuratore capo Caselli di anticipare di qualche mese la data del proprio pensionamento. January 6, 2014 A Dual-Track Strategy: A Letter on Counter-Insurgency Filed under: english — translationcollective @ 6:24 pm by Those from the Friday Discussion, January 2013 counterinsurgency – PDF Dear fellow travellers in struggle, With this letter we want to pick up some of the questions that came up in the discussions on counter-insurgency at the antimilitarist camp against the GÜZ.1 First we’ll look at the instrumentalization of victims – in this respect, we like to present to you a very informative text about the war in Darfur, which can be read as a kind of blueprint of a strategy of legitimization in the war on terror. Moreover we will talk about collective memory, about our shared knowledge of those who step up to become our enemies, about their changing and yet old familiar strategies – as well as about our own perception of them, which is also undergoing changes that lead to different assessments and consequences. The pending question above the particular aspects of this letter was posed by a comrade right at the start of the discussion on Friday: „What do you want from US then?“ We like to take up this question as central thread, as it shows that we succeeded, despite bumpy moments in the presentation, to put into focus what we think is the crux of the matter, if we really want to stop the war. To develop and keep up a dual-track strategy, that, simultaneously with the attempt to understand and to fight the ongoing war in all its actually atrocious existence, always taking as the point of departure our own life in wartime, a point of departure as completely personal as it is collective. To come to a realistic evaluation of our possibilities to act, we think it is necessary to acknowledge that which we have not chosen: That we are in a state of war everywhere in the world, even if the international division of labor distributes suffering unequally. The acknowledge of this point should not to be mistaken for a self-righteous „Yes to war!“ combative bathos, which despite feeling less helpless nevertheless gets stuck in a twisted understanding of our situation, swapping the places where power and powerlessness are to be found in our lives in a confused manner. Put rudely: Those ruling us don‘t give a shit which fantasies of omnipotence we devote ourselves to, regardless of whichever fantasy we like better, be it the pose of the wise prophet of peace or that of the apocalyptic nihilist warrior. Both serve the function to shift our desire for self-determination to spheres far out of our reach, while we can barely face up to even the most tiny changes in our everyday life. Eine zweigleisige Strategie: Ein Brief zur Diskussion über Aufstandsbekämpfung Filed under: deutsch,original — translationcollective @ 6:00 pm Die von der Freitagsdiskussion, Januar 2013 aufstandsbekämpfung – PDF Werte MitstreiterInnen, Wir ergreifen hiermit die Gelegenheit, einige Fragen aufzugreifen, die im Zuge der Diskussionen zu Aufstandsbekämpfung auf dem GÜZ-Camp1 aufkamen. Zunächst wird es um das Funktionalisieren von Opfern gehen – wir möchten euch dazu einen sehr aufschlussreichen Text zum Krieg in Darfur vorstellen, der als eine Art Blaupause von Legitimierungsstrategien im Krieg gegen den Terror gelesen werden kann. Außerdem werden wir über kollektive Erinnerung reden, um das von uns geteilte Wissen über diejenigen, die sich zu unseren Feinden erheben, um ihre sich wandelnden und doch gleichzeitig altbekannten Strategien – sowie die sich ebenfalls wandelnde Wahrnehmung derselben unsererseits, die zu unterschiedlichen Einschätzungen und Konsequenzen führt. Über den einzelnen Aspekten dieses Briefes schwebt die Frage, die ein Genosse gleich zu Beginn der Freitags-Debatte an uns richtete: „Und was wollt ihr nun von UNS?“ Wir nehmen diese Frage gern auf, zeigt sie doch, dass es uns trotz aller Holprigkeit des Vortrags gelungen ist, das ins Zentrum der Betrachtung zu stellen, was unserer Ansicht nach einer der Knackpunkte ist, wenn wir den Krieg wirklich aufhalten wollen: Eine zweigleisige Strategie zu entwickeln und durchzuhalten, die gleichzeitig mit dem Versuch, den laufenden Krieg in seiner objektiv schrecklichen Existenz zu verstehen und anzugreifen immer von unserem höchstpersönlichen wie kollektiven Leben in Kriegszeiten ausgeht. Für eine realistische Einschätzung unser Handlungsmöglichkeiten halten wir es für nötig anerkennen, was wir uns nicht ausgesucht haben: Dass wir uns überall auf der Welt im Kriegszustand befinden, auch wenn die internationale Arbeitsteilung das Leid ungleich verteilt. Dies anzuerkennen ist nicht zu verwechseln mit einem selbstgefälligen Ja zum Krieg, mit kämpferischem Pathos, der sich zwar weniger hilflos anfühlt, aber nichts desto trotz steckenbleibt in einem im Wortsinne verkehrten Verständnis unserer Situation, einer Verwechslung der Orte, an denen in unserem Leben Macht und Ohnmacht zu finden sind. Grob gesagt kann es den Herrschenden scheißegal sein, welcher Allmachtsfantasie wir uns hingeben, ob wir uns in der Pose weiser Friedenspropheten oder nihilistischer Endzeitkrieger besser gefallen. Beide erfüllen die Funktion, unseren Wunsch nach Selbstbestimmung in unerreichbare Sphären zu entrücken, während wir im Alltag bereits den kleinsten Veränderungen wie ohnmächtig gegenüberstehen. Vielleicht deshalb, weil die Komplexität jeder Gesellschaft, insbesondere an ihren Wendepunkten und im Prozess der Veränderung, so konfus erschient. Wie auch immer, lass uns Antworten auf einige Fragen und Vorhaltungen finden, die derzeit auftreten und eine andere Perspektive auf die gegenwärtige Situation einnehmen. Erstens. War es eine Revolution oder nicht? Ja, es war und ist immer noch eine Revolution. Wenn Du 30 Millionen hochmotivierte Menschen auf den Straßen siehst, kannst Du nicht über die isolierten Entscheidungen der Machthabenden sprechen. Tamaroud (Bewegung der Rebellion, die die Unterschriftenkampagne gegen Mursi getragen hat, Anm.d.Ü.) ist eine Graswurzelbewegung, auch wenn sie reformistisch ist und auch wenn sie schnell die Unterstützung der wichtigsten Figuren der Opposition, die versuchen ihren Vorteil aus den Veränderungen herauszuschlagen, bekommen hat (dies ist offensichtlich und wir leben in der Realität) und sie ohne diese Unterstützung nicht so erfolgreich gewesen wäre. Maybe because the complexity of every society is confusing, especially in its turning points and the process of change. Anyway let’s try to answer some questions and accusations which emerge now and provide another perspective on the current situation. First. Was it a revolution or not? Yes, it was and still it is. When you see 30 million highly motivated people on the street, you cannot talk just about the isolated decisions of power holders. Tamaroud is a grassroots movement, even though its aims are reformist and it gained the quick support of main opposition players which each wanted to gain benefits from changing the situation (it is obvious and was obvious, we exist in reality), and without this support the movement wouldn’t be so successful. Auch wenn wir vor der ernsten Bedrohung ihrer Vereinnahmung stehen, die allgemeine Tendenz ist eindeutig aus den Institutionen heraus uns auf die Straßen zu gehen. Ist die ägyptische Revolution tot? Die kurze Antwort heißt “Nein”. Eine längere Antwort folgt. Was in Ägypten zwischen 30. Juni und 3. Juli geschah, war kein Putsch gegen die gewählte Regierung. es war ein weiterer Versuch der Generäle, die ägyptische Revolution vom 25. Januar zu vereinnahmen / beeinflussen. Die Komplexität der Situation und ihre global und ideologisch aufgeladene Natur machen es schwer, den Wald vor lauter Bäumen zu sehen. Délivrés du joug de l’épisode fasciste de l’Etat, et aussitôt passés à l’épisode démocratique, la condition des habitants de ces pays aurait été radicalement bouleversée. Beaucoup s’en réjouissent encore aujourd’hui, une cinquantaine d’années de pacification sociale plus tard, en témoigne les nombreuses manifestations et commémorations annuelles inscrites au calendrier de tout bon Etat qui se respecte. Les exploités, les indésirables auraient alors miraculeusement changé de condition. Ce mythe est le mythe de la libération de 45, c’est le mythe antifasciste, nous allons tenter d’en dégager quelques traits. Il y a dans cette mythologie, comme dans toute mythologie, une illusion qui pourchasse la raison. Les indésirables exterminés, massacrés, torturés à mort sous le régime fasciste et ceux enfermés, exploités, expulsés, contaminés, génétiquement fichés sous le régime démocratique n’ont en fait jamais changé de condition, ils n’ont changé que de conditions de vie. Chaque régime a eu ses catégories d’indésirables, parfois les mêmes. Chaque groupement humain autoritaire a possédé ses esclaves, ses ennemis, son langage spécifique, ses tendances à la domestication, sa part de servitude volontaire et son arsenal punitif. De la tribu primitive au fascisme, de la démocratie à la tyrannie. Il suffit que le principe d’autorité surgisse pour qu’un contrat plus ou moins forcé, qu’il soit « laxiste » ou entièrement coercitif, soit scellé par ceux qui détiennent le moindre pouvoir et ceux que la faiblesse matérielle et sociale encage aux confins de la domination. Olemme tehneet parhaamme pitääksemme serverit turvallisina ja olemme eri tavoin torjuneet viranomaisten vaatimukset saada käyttäjätietoja. Lyhyesti: pyrimme tarjoamaan vapauttavan tavan kommunikoida kapitalistisen internetin puitteissa. Olemme aina nähneet internetin voimavarana kamppailuissamme, samalla tunnustaen sen poliittisena taistelukenttänä, ja olemme toimineet tämän mukaisesti. Luulimme, että suurin osa vasemmistosta koki samoin. Mutta koska yhä useammat vasemmistolaiset ovat “käyttäneet” Facebookia (tai Facebook on käyttänyt heitä), emme ole enää yhtä varmoja. Kurz: Wir versuchen im kapitalistischen Internet eine emanzipatorische Basis der Kommunikation zu bieten. Seitdem auch viele Linke Facebook „nutzen“ (oder Facebook viele Linke nutzt), sind wir jedoch verunsichert: Vielen scheint es nun nicht mehr darum zu gehen, einerseits das Internet als Ressource für linke Kämpfe zu nutzen, andererseits aber das Internet selbst als politisch umkämpftes Terrain zu verstehen und sich in diesem Kampf dazu zu verhalten. Vielmehr wird unsere politische Arbeit selbst als defizitär und anstrengend wahrgenommen. Tenemos que hablar de Facebook Filed under: espanol — translationcollective @ 6:30 pm http://www.nadir.org Durante varios años, hemos estado proveyendo servidores e infraestructura de comunicación para la izquierda. Hemos hecho todo lo que estaba en nuestras manos para mantener los servidores seguros y hemos resistido, usando varios medios, a peticiones de datos de usuarios por parte de las autoridades. En resumen: tratamos de ofrecer una forma de comunicación liberadora dentro del internet capitalista. Siempre hemos visto internet como un recurso para llevar adelante nuestras luchas y al mismo tiempo también como un espacio para el combate político, y hemos actuado en consecuencia con eso. Pensábamos que la mayoría de la izquierda lo veía de la misma manera. Pero desde que más y más gente de la izquierda “usan” Facebook (o Facebook los usa a ellos), ya no estamos tan seguros. Nuestro trabajo político se ha estado viendo como deficiente y agotador. La comunicación cifrada con servidores autónomos no se percibe como algo liberador, sino como algo molesto. We have done our best to keep the servers safe and have resisted requests for user data by the authorities, using various means. In short: we try to offer a liberating form of communication within the capitalist internet. We have always seen the internet as a resource for our struggles and at the same time recognised it as contested political terrain, and we have acted accordingly. We thought that most on the left saw it the same way. But since more and more people on the left have been “using” Facebook (or Facebook has been using them), we are not so sure any more. Instead, our political work has been seen as lacking and exhausting. Encrypted communication with autonomous servers is not perceived as liberating but rather as annoying. (more…) Leave a Comment

Nous avons fait de notre mieux pour assurer la sécurité de nos serveurs et nous avons résisté — par divers moyens — aux requêtes des autorités nous demandant de fournir des données personnelles. En bref, nous essayons de rendre possible des formes de communication émancipatrices au sein de l’Internet capitaliste. Nous avons toujours considéré Internet comme un outil pour nos luttes et en même temps comme un terrain politique contesté, et nous avons agi en conséquence. Nous pensions que la plus grande partie du mouvement social l’envisageait de la même manière. Mais comme de plus en plus de militant·e·s « utilisent » Facebook (ou sont utilisé·e·s par Facebook), nous n’en sommes plus si sûr·e·s. Au contraire, notre travail politique nous a paru à côté de la plaque et épuisant. Abbiamo fatto del nostro meglio per tenere al sicuro i server e abbiamo resistito alle pressioni delle autorità – volte ad ottenere i dati delle/degli utenti – con i più diversi metodi. In breve, tentiamo di offrire una forma di comunicazione libera all’interno del capitalistico internet. Abbiamo sempre concepito internet come una risorsa per le nostre lotte, ma allo stesso tempo lo abbiamo considerato un campo politico controverso e abbiamo agito di conseguenza. Eravamo convinti che la maggioranza degli appartenenti alla sinistra la pensassero allo stesso modo. Ma dal momento che sempre più persone di sinistra ‘usano’ facebook (o vengono usate da facebook), non ne siamo più così cert*. Il nostro lavoro politico è stato percepito invece come carente e sfinente. La comunicazione criptata attraverso server autonomi non viene percepita come emancipante ma piuttosto come una seccatura. Temos feito o nosso melhor para manter servidores seguros e temos resistido por vários meios a requisições a dados de usuário/a feitas por autoridades. Em resumo: tentamos oferecer uma forma de comunicação libertadora dentro da internet capitalista. Sempre vimos a internet como um recurso para nossas lutas, e ao mesmo tempo a reconhecemos como um terreno político controverso, e agimos em consonância com isto. Pensávamos que a maior parte da esquerda a enxerga da mesma maneira. Mas uma vez que mais e mais pessoas na esquerda tem “usado” o Facebook (ou o Facebook as tem usado), não temos mais certeza sobre isso. Als we het hebben over counterinsurgency en niet over repressie, is dat omdat het eerste niet zozeer een militaire interventie is, maar een politieke en sociale techniek om instemming, angst en verslagenheid te produceren. Ze doelt niet op de onmiddellijke vernietiging van de opstandelingen, maar op hun verwijdering uit hun leefruimte: het conceptuele, affectieve en culturele vlak van de opstand. Dit is een preventieve strategie wiens doelwit de weelde aan mogelijkheden is die uit de opstand ontsprongen zijn. Het is ‘low intensity warfare ‘, een politiek-psychologische oorlogsvoering omdat ze de afbreuk van de politieke, sociale en psychologische consistentie tot doel heeft. Het centrale principe van de counterinsurgency is om aan de ene kant “harten en geesten” te winnen en aan de andere kant “de vissen niet uit de zee te halen, maar de zee waarin de opstandelingen zwemmen te laten opdrogen”. Dieses „dort“ bezeichnet den Ort einer Konfliktualität, den Ort eines Widerstands gegen die verallgemeinerte Ausweitung des Regimes biopolitischer Governance als Prozess der Domestizierung der Welt in die Ökonomie. Dieser Widerstand bezeichnet den Ort eines außerhalb, eines da-draußen. Er manifestiert die Schwelle, jenseits derer sich ein neuer Raum des Politischen eröffnen kann. Hinter der Vielfalt der Handlungen da-draußen, die sporadisch im öffentlichen und privaten Raum wuchern, gelegentlich durch Lücken im ökonomischen Gewebe hindurch, zeichnet sich die Linie einer politischen Geste ab.

Wir gehen davon aus, dass der reformistische Ansatz der Bürokratie, die es organisiert, in keiner Weise zur Entwicklung eines revolutionären Projekts für die Völker der Welt beiträgt. Auch wenn das Event sich als Gelegenheit für das Zusammentreffen von Revolutionären aus verschiedenen Ecken der Welt darstellt, steht das ultimative Ziel, die Zerstörung des kapitalistischen Systems, nicht auf der Tagesordnung. Dieses Forum wird zu einer Zeit stattfinden, da die Welt von einer Welle von Aufständen und sozialen Bewegungen überzogen wird. Streiks, Besetzungen und Unruhen schließen aneinander an und wechseln sich ab. Der Zorn auf das System überwindet die Grenzen von Orient und Okzident. “Demokratisch” genannte Staaten werden ebenso in Frage gestellt wie die schlimmsten Diktaturen. Doch diese Zugehörigkeit ist nie einfach gewesen. Linke, die in Machtpositionen waren (inklusive derjenigen, die sich selbst Anarchisten nannten, wie die Anführer der CNT und der FAI in Spanien 1936-37) fanden das anarchistische Ziel der totalen Transformation des Lebens und das konsequente Prinzip, das die Struktur schon in den Mitteln des Kampfes existieren sollte, als Behinderung ihrer politischen Programme. Wirklicher Aufstand brach immer weit ausserhalb jeden politischen Programms aus und die kohärentesten Anarchisten sahen die Verwirklichung ihrer Träume genau an diesem Ort ausserhalb. Dennoch nahmen die führenden Anarchisten oft wieder ihren Platz als das „Gewissen der Linken“ ein, wenn die Feuer des Aufstands sich wieder abgekühlt hatten (und manchmal sogar wenn sie noch hell brannten, wie in Spanien 1936-37). Doch wenn die Ausdehnung anarchistischer Träume und der Grundsätze die sie einschliessen eine Behinderung der politischen Modelle der Linken ist, so sind diese Modelle ein weit grösserer Mühlstein um den Nacken der anarchistischen Bewegung, der sie mit einem „Realismus“ der nicht träumen kann, herunterzieht. Leftists who were in a position of authority (including those who called themselves anarchists, like the leaders of the CNT and the FAI in Spain in 1936-37) found the anarchist aim of the total transformation of life and the consequent principle that the ends should already exist in the means of struggle to be a hindrance to their political programs. Real insurgence always burst far beyond any political program, and the most coherent anarchists saw the realization of their dreams precisely in this unknown place beyond. Yet, time after time, when the fires of insurrection cooled (and even occasionally, as in Spain in 1936-37, while they still burnt brightly), leading anarchists would take their place again as “the conscience of the left”. But if the expansiveness of anarchist dreams and the principles that it implies have been a hindrance to the political schemes of the left, these schemes have been a far greater millstone around the neck of the anarchist movement, weighing it down with the “realism” that cannot dream. Die Konzentration dieser unendlichen Menschenmassen auf immer engerem Raum, mit dem Ziel sie besser zu kontrollieren und auszubeuten2 , hat die Slums auf allen Kontinenten verbreitet, ohne Ausnahme, sie führte zu dem, was als „Planet der Slums“ definiert wurde. Global Report on Human Settlements (2003) zu Folge leben derzeit fast eine Milliarde Menschen in Slums (auf die gesamte Weltbevölkerung bezogen jeder Sechste, oder jeder dritte Stadtbewohner), es wird davon ausgegangen, dass sich diese Zahl bis 2030 verdoppelt, so dass in dem Bericht von einer wachsenden „Verstädterung der Armut“ gesprochen wird.
