11 The new station ‘Maastricht Noord’ is almost ready.
New station - Maastricht Noord (North) By order of BAM Civiel, we recently completed the activities involved in the construction of the lift shaft and the platform roof. Maastricht Noord station is a new railway station in Maastricht, situated in the Beatrixhaven district, to the north of Limmel and Nazareth, opposite the Mariënwaard rural estate. The station is located on the Maastricht-Kerkrade railway line. The activities comprise the manufacture, painting and preservation of the steel structure for the lift shaft and platform roof. The supply and installation of steel window/door frames of the Janssen profile type, fitted with laminated glass. In addition, the supply and installation of balustrades fitted with stainless steel wire mesh network.

A2 tunnel route Excavators, hoisting-cranes and very many workers are labouring daily on the A2 tunnel, which is to be completed in 2016. Frijns Industrial Group too is collaborating on the construction. Last year, a temporary structure was erected for the new viaduct of the A2/A79. Recently, we received the assignment, from the construction consortium Avenue2, to manufacture, deliver and erect approx. 4.5 kilometres of hot dip galvanized gratings and checker plates. The gratings and the checker plates serve as escape route and service corridor. These spaces will be located in the middle of the tunnel.

Logistics Centre for Sandd in Echt-Susteren
*
Steel construction and plating are being supplied.
Sandd, one of the Netherlands’ largest postal delivery services, is realizing a new centre in the municipality of EchtSusteren. The new building(s) will be located in the De Berk industrial estate on the Nobelweg. On the orders of Geelen Vastgoed & Bouw, we shall attend to the steel construction and the plating of the roof and the facade. The project comprises approx. 85 metric tons of steel , 2235 m2 of roof sheeting and 915 m2 of wall plate, composed of inner box, insulation and facade plating.
On the orders of Laura Metaal Fabrications, we commenced, at the beginning of May, on various adaptations to Laura Metaal’s factory hall at Eygelshoven. Laura Metaal is a leading steel-processing company, with 3 establishments and a total of 180 staff. One of the business units, Laura Metaal Fabrications in Eygelshoven, is active in, amongst other things, the production of steel components and constructions for heavy machines and large construction elements. Recently, Laura Metaal Fabrications decided to further expand the production package with one of the largest and most advanced angle benders in the Netherlands. In order to be able to emplace this new Press Brake, which is 14.2 metres long and exerts 2000 metric tons of pressure force, a considerable number of adaptations to the existing steel structure and the foundations of the factory hall are necessary. Amongst other things, the activities comprise the emplacement of new IPE 550 roof beams, the installation of new crane girders and the construction of a new machine bedplate for the heavy press brake. Planned completion June 2013.
* Eco combination bridge for improvement of green-track cycle route In wintery conditions, the 33 metre long eco combination bridge was erected in the Heerenweg in Heerlen. The erection of the bridge means an improvement in the 10 km long cycle route along the green track of the old mines. Considering the length of the bridge, this seemed no easy task, but thanks to our years of experience in projects of this type, the bridge was nevertheless quickly erected in its place, despite the bad weather. The construction was completely prefabricated in our workplace in Valkenburg. Also, the bridge deck boards were fitted and 175 m2 of stainless steel wire mesh network were pre-assembled on both sides of the bridge. The bridge rests on 2 concrete promontories, which we also prefabricated and then emplaced at the location.

Large type castellated beams in production
On the photo, it can easily be seen that we are currently working on a large type of castellated beam. These are particularly suitable for large spans, such as roof beams with a limited load. A castellated beam is a standard section that is divided by a lengthwise cut and the two portions subsequently welded together, so that a higher beam is created. Because of the increase in height, the beam acquires a greater bending moment, and also affords the possibility of leading piping through the roof. In addition, the construction of the beam is lighter than a standard section, while its strength is not affected. And finally, of course, the aesthetic appearance is also of importance.
The new castellated beams are transported on an FIG truck of 27m in length.
The castellated beams are welded together in FIG´s industrial plant in Valkenburg.
