1950 » Rolv B. Yttrehus, East Brunswick, N. J., a professor emeritus at Rutgers University, is a composer of contemporary classical music. He holds a degree from the University of Michigan and a diploma from the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. He studied harmony with Nadia Boulanger and composition with Ross Lee Finney, Roger Sessions, Aaron Copland, and Goffredo Petrassi. He taught at the University of Missouri, Purdue University, and University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. He retired after teaching at Rutgers University for 19 years.

1960 » Wilbur M. Laulo, Saint Peters, Mo., and his wife Mary (Brewster) Laulo will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on February 23, 2013. They will be having the celebration in St. Louis, Mo., at the same church where they were married. Wilbur is a retired U.S. Government information system security professional.

1961 » Lynn D. Jamison, Lakewood, Colo., is president of the Lakewood Colorado Chapter of National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) and led the Chapter delegation at the 32nd national convention in Reno/Sparks, Nev., in September 2012. Joseph A. Pucci, Aurora, Colo., has retired from his professional endeavors. He served in the United States Air Force for 20 years. He was also the deputy city manager for Aurora and owned his own consulting business, Pucci & Associates. Gary F. Snow, East York, Ontario, Canada, is the district coordinator of the Supplemental Educational Services program in the Palm Beach schools. Gary was the first elected president of the first inter-fraternity council at UMD, also serving as the president of Sigma Tau Kappa fraternity. Helga J. (Larsen) Wallner, Duluth, Minn., has retired from RWC Inc., a remodeling and new construction company. Helga chairs the St. Luke's Foundation Board and serves on the board for the Lighthouse for Low Vision.

1965 » Harvey Burski, Duluth, Minn., an adjunct associate professor in the Master of Environmental Health program at UMD, received the 2012 Arthur E. McCauley, Jr. Occupational Health Leadership Award, Minnesota's top honor for safety professionals. Carol M. Worthing, Duluth, Minn., is a semi-retired pastor for the ELCA pastoral ministry. Carol is a director and mentor for spiritual formation as a spiritual advisor within the Northeastern Minnesota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

1966 » Robert O. Harder, Chicago, Ill., is the founder of Green Tree Marketing, Inc. He had a book published in 2009: "Flying From the Black Hole: The B-52 Navigator-Bombardiers of Vietnam" with the softcover edition going on sale in March 2013. Donald F. Walker Jr., Jeffersonville, Ind., retired in 2001 from his job as a veteran service center manager for the Department of Veteran Affairs.

1970 » James W. Balmer, Duluth, Minn., is a founder of the law firm Falsani, Balmer, Peterson, Quinn & Beyer. Jim was recognized by the Minnesota Journal of Law & Politics as a 2012 Super Lawyer. This designation is awarded to the top five percent of attorneys in the state. Laura M. (Johnson) Meeks, Steubenville, Ohio, will soon retire after being a community college president in two states for over 20 years. Reverend Roger C. Paavola, Cordova, Tenn., was elected as district president for the Mid-South District of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod last June. Clark C. Peterson, Hinckley, Minn., attended the April 2012 pro wrestling convention, the "Cauliflower Alley Club" in Las Vegas, Nev., where he roasted wrestling promoter Karl Lauer.

1972 » Peggy Shaw Fink, St. Paul, Minn., was named vice president of advancement for Urban Ventures, a non-profit organization serving over 3,000 low-income people through teaching, mentoring, and creating jobs. Nancy A. (Joseph) Stubenvoll, Duluth, Minn., is a project manager for the Minnesota Department of Human Services and is currently coordinating Medicaid reform efforts for the Continuing Care Administration.

1973 » Kay C. Allen, Grand Rapids, Minn., has been the owner and proprietor of the home furnishings store, Jenny and Company, in downtown Grand Rapids since 1987. Barbara A. (Bush) Habhegger, Edisto Island, S.C., is assistant to the dean in the School of Education at a military college, The Citadel. She has been an educator for almost 40 years.

1974 » James F. Mc Culloch, Banks, Ore., published his first novel, Fracture Gradient, in October 2012. Norman M. Sarff lives in Menomonie, Wis. He was the professor of Military Science for UMD from 1988-1990.

1975 » Michael R. Johns, Mason City, Iowa, is the general manager at Iowa Traction Railway. He is also the author of three books on transportation history and is the committee chair for the City Main Street Program.

1977 » Ronald A. Brochu, Duluth, Minn., is a publisher at Business North magazine, an online news source. He was editor of the UMD Statesman in 1976-1977. Ed LaTendresse, Hibbing, Minn., was named general manager of Northshore Mining. James R. Plaunt, South Lyon, Mich., is the owner and sales representative for Bike Tour Vacations. Their first bike tour of Minnesota will be held this July. Lisa D. (Shefchik) Pratt, Duluth, Minn., was named director of alumni relations at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

1978 » Vicky A. Knickerbocker, Eden Prairie, Minn., is a human services and sociology instructor at Inver Hills Community College.

1979 » Michael D. Goldsmith, Proctor, Minn., is the owner and president of Goldsmith & Associates. He has also released a new book, Eli Greatness Begins, in September 2012. Carmen M. Haakstad, Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, is vice president of external relations for Grande Prairie Regional College. This past summer, her paintings were exhibited in the art show, "Journey 2012." Recently Haakstad traveled to Thailand, Hollywood, and South Africa.

1981 » Cindy L. Deuser, Fargo, N.D., just graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead with a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing.

1983 » Theresa M. Cain, Minneapolis, Minn., is a personal lines account manager at Twin Ports Insurance of Duluth and has earned the insurance designation of certified insurance service representative by the National Alliance of Insurance Education and Research.

1984 » Brent M. Brommer, Woodbury, Minn., is a Minnesota Twins tour guide. He interned in the City of Duluth's Office of Business Development under Gary Tonkin and Tom Cotruvo and has been a contributing charter member to the Duluth Growth Company. Warren P. Gooch, Kirksville, Mo., is a professor of music theory and composition at Truman State University where he received the 2012 Educator of the Year award. He is also the chair of the Master of Arts in Music Program. Kirk R. Tingblad, Port Hueneme, Calif., is an animation director for Warner Bros. Animation. His recent projects are the upcoming season episodes of The Looney Toons Show and Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated. Paul H. Williams, Minneapolis, Minn., completed his degree in nursing in 1989. He now is a Fresenius Medical Care registered nurse team leader.

1985 » Timothy D. Conklin, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, who is part of the Twin Ports Ministry, received his graduate certificate in executive coaching at Royal Roads University in November 2012.

1986 » Julie A. (Thamert) Lightfoot, Cypress, Tex., is the owner of Discovery Toys and partners with The Children's Art Project to raise over $70,000 to help children and families dealing with cancer at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

1987 » Todd Fedora, Duluth, Minn., joined U.S. Bank in Duluth as the vice president and commercial banking team leader. He is responsible for managing existing relationships. Brian F. Liberty, Duluth, Minn., is a wealth management specialist and vice president of investments in the Duluth office of Raymond James & Associates, Inc. Brian recently completed the Advanced Estate Planning Institute Course at the Raymond James Institute of Finance. Kelly A. (Rerah) Paddock, Saint Paul, Minn., recently earned her certification for healing touch through Healing Touch International to become a certified healing touch practitioner. Kelly is also enrolled in the Minnesota College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine programs at Northwestern Health Sciences University and is working on her master's in Oriental medicine.

1988 » Jeff Feldman, Eden Prairie, Minn., is a RE/MAX agent in the Twin Cities. Diana M. (Pavek) Running, Savage, Minn., works for Gander Mountain as the advertising design manager. She received her master's degree in strategic management at St. Catherine University. Carrie Sutherland, Superior, Wis., was named director of development for the UMD Swenson College of Science and Engineering.

1990 » Jolene L. (Lallier) Tomioka, Saitama, Japan, is currently living in London while her husband has a job assignment there.

1991 » Christy A. (Montour) Larson, Wheat Ridge, Colo., was artistic director of the play Time Stands Still which ran at Denver's Curious Theatre Company in November 2012. Christy became a member of the theatre company in 2004.

1993 » Kate I. (Gunderson) Paul, Iron, Minn., currently works for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Stacey Poirier, Minneapolis, Minn., is the artistic director at Theatre Unbound in Minneapolis. Her all-female production of Julius Caesar won a 2012 Ivey Award for Inventive Reinterpretation. The Ivey Awards celebrate Twin Cities professional theater. Tessa Jo (Patton) Smith, Fort Worth, Tex., was presented with the VIP Woman of the Year award by the National Association of Professional Women. Tessa was also the honorary recipient of the Yellow Rose of Texas award by Governor Rick Perry for her military involvement.

1995 » Steven Raj, Hermantown, Minn., is manager of the Mortgage Lending Department at Members Cooperative Credit Union and recently completed the USA Cares Military Housing Education Program. The program offers support to military families to deal with burdens of service and with financial and advocacy resources.

1996 » Kimberly J. Breeden, Mayer, Minn. is a math teacher at Minnesota Online High School. The unique courses, small classes, and responsive faculty create a positive learning environment for the students from diverse backgrounds. Allyz Kramer, Duluth, Minn., was named a company associate by the Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. (SEH) engineering and architecture firm. Allyz has been with SEH for 13 years.

1999 » Deborah S. Scott, Duluth, Minn., recently joined Duluth Sister Cities International as coordinator.

2001 » Stephanie M. Balmer, Duluth, Minn., was elected to the Board of Governors of the Minnesota Association of Justice, the governing organization for attorneys who represent injury victims throughout Minnesota. Stephanie is an associate at the firm of Falsani, Balmer, Peterson, Quinn & Beyer and has been recognized every year since 2007 as a Rising Star by the Minnesota Journal of Law & Politics. Nicole T. (Nowak) Saenz, Brown Deer, Wis., received her Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience at Wayne State University in May 2012. She is now a Postdoctoral Research Fellow.

2002 » Chuck Deye, South Range, Wis., was recently hired by Bay West, Inc., an environmental and industrial services company. Megan M. (Kingsley) Gale, Bremerton, Wash., is an active duty navy wife practicing health care as an East Asian medicine practitioner. She is also an advisor to Acupuncturists without Borders Military Stress Relief Project. Jeremy J. Nihart, King of Prussia, Pa., works for Arkema, Inc. He was part of a team of scientists recognized by the ACS Heroes of Chemistry program for the scientific discovery, technical development, and commercial implementation of Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition technology in the production of high performance window glass. Michael J. Schlangen, Duluth, Minn., was promoted to assistant store manager for the Duluth Pack store.

2003 » Justin H. Gundelach, Rochester, Minn., is a senior research technologist at Mayo Clinic. He published scientific articles in 2012 in the Journal of Immunology and the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology Journal. Justin married Andrea Malcomson (2003) in November 2012. She works as a nurse at Mayo Clinic. Todd D. Hubert, Saint Paul, Minn., works at the Metro Wastewater Treatment Plant in Saint Paul for Metropolitan Council Lab Services. Laura M. (Russell) Phipps, Cochrane, Alberta, Canada, returned to the Calgary area after graduating from UMD. She recently married and began a career with the Calgary Stampede rodeo. Tammy J. (Jobe) Wiklund, Burnsville, Minn., married Jonas Wiklund in September 2012. They live in Burnsville with their two-year-old daughter, Lilly.

2004 » Benjamin J. Botnen, Minneapolis, Minn., received his M.B.A. from the Carlson School of Management. He is a project manager at U.S. Bank. Zachary E. Tagg, Buffalo, Minn., is a controls engineer at Loram. He has two children with his wife, Cynthia. His daughter, Acaia, was born in August 2012 and joined three-year-old brother Aaden.

2005 » Heather M. (Hartwig) Drees and Nicholas D. Drees, Duluth, Minn., were married on November 3, 2012 in Little Falls, Minn. Kim Hoffmockel, Duluth, Minn., received an employee Spirit Award from Lutheran Social Services in August 2012.

2006 » Sarah R. (Fries) Brinkman, Grand Rapids, Minn., is currently enrolled at the College of St. Scholastica pursuing a master's degree in management and business administration with focus on health care leadership and organizational development. She received a scholarship from the Hawkinson Foundation for Peace & Justice in Minneapolis. Brittany N. (Shanoff) Robb, Duluth, Minn., was promoted to shelter supervisor at Safe Haven Shelter for Battered Women. Erin (Withers) Thackeray, Duluth, Minn., joined the Essentia Health-Duluth Clinic after graduating from medical school from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. She completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.

2007 » Nathan C. Johnson, Fitchburg, Wis., will celebrate his first year as a full time attorney with Constangy, Brooks & Smith, LLP in February 2013.

2008 » Michael P. Malone, Duluth, Minn., has been recognized as the Fuse Person of the Year. Mike has been a member of the Fuse Leadership Council since 2009 and is currently spearheading a new Fuse initiative called the Fuse Fellowship. Ben Martin, Eagle Bend, Minn., has been promoted to branch manager at G & K Services, a branded identity apparel and facility services company. Daniel A. Neff, Duluth, Minn., owns and operates an art gallery, Lake Superior Art Glass, in downtown Duluth, which features glass art from artists around the state, as well as Dan's glass art. Kali L. Sutton, Saint Michael, Minn., has been serving in Ukraine as a youth development volunteer in the Peace Corps since March 2012. She will stay until June 2014. Kali is teaching healthy lifestyle lessons to children in the area, in Russian, as well as conducting an English club at two schools.

2009 » Justin B. Guthman, Milwaukee, Wis., was recognized as the recipient of the 2012 Young Pharmacist of the Year by the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin. Justin is currently an outpatient pharmacy supervisor at Froedtert Health. Kevin A. Roble, Brooklyn Park, Minn., is an iPad support specialist and assistant varsity football coach at DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis. Kevin is working on his master's degree in leadership in student affairs at the University of Saint Thomas.

2010 » Mackenzie B. Anderson, Minneapolis, Minn., is the administrative clerk for HealthFitness Corporation. Grant A. McColley, Saint Paul, Minn., is currently seeking his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Saint Thomas School of Law.

2011 » Caitlin "Cat" M. Brindisi, Chanhassen, Minn., played Princess Amneris in Aida in January 2013. The Theater Latté Da company performed the musical, which was based on Verdi's opera, at the Pantages Theatre. In the past year, Brindisi appeared in Theater Latté Da's productions of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Spring Awakening. Travis L. Dill, Duluth, Minn., was hired to be part of the reporting staff for "Eyewitness News" at WDIO/WIRT-DT. Rochelle M. Kredovski, Superior, Wis., is the licensed alcohol drug counselor for Fond du Lac Human Services. Brianna M. Sutherland, Apple Valley, Minn., currently works as an account executive for the Greenville Road Warriors, a professional hockey team in Greenville, S.C. Chnice Watson, Duluth, Minn., recently became initiatives coordinator for the United Way of Greater Duluth.
