Happy Bucks Brian – Two happy bucks. First, for the Installation Banquet; after months of planning and weeks rehearsing the murder mystery with the cast of “Murder at the Midnight Hour,” Brian was very happy with how it turned out. His second happy buck is for his brother, the youngest out of Brian’s siblings, who turned 30 on October 1st. Brian noted that he celebrated this by paying for a 1 year subscription for his brother to join AARP, followed by sending him an anonymous care package containing items like hard candies, a pill dispenser and denture cream with a letter “welcoming him to Senior Sampler….” Allowing him to try all the things he’ll find himself drawn to as he enters his “silver age of life”. Finally the day of his birthday, much as his brother has done with his own friends, Brian “trolled” his brother’s Facebook with memes and music videos of top songs from each of his last 30 birthdays.

Members are invited to sign-up for committees they would like to serve on this club year; they’re welcome to remain on committees they served on last year or signup for other committees. They may also chair committees or specific projects and events. Brian noted a need for a Builders Club advisor at the Middle School, as past advisor, Melissa Schulz, has stepped down from that role. Middle school principal and former member, Rick Bunge, has relayed to the club plans to combine Builders Club with the middle school student council. Discussion was had about the feasibility of this in terms of the history of the Builders Club and what this would mean for his future and sustaining its identity. One of our members did volunteer to act as advisor for the Builders Club; however club advisors need to be a member of the school faculty. Similarly, any new advisor for the Builders Club who isn’t already a member of Kiwanis would need to join our club.

Responsibilities: The nominations committee is responsible for identifying members to be nominated for officer and board positions at least once a year; and finding members to fill vacancies as needed. The committee would also review granting awards or other forms of recognizing members for their service, and report their recommendations to the board.

The committee will have a pair of standing co-chairs, the current President Elect, overseeing fundraising, and the current treasurer, overseeing other areas of club finance.

Tom is going to try and reach out to former member and retired RMS principal, Lee Nelson, who both started the Builders Club and served as its advisor for many years, to see if there may be anything gleaned from the Builders Club history that may help us chart its future.

Responsibilities: This committee will be responsibly for drafting the budget for the each successive fiscal year, and coordinate measures within the club to ensure, to their best ability, an adherence to that budget through fundraising, reviewing significant spending requests and reporting their recommendations to the board. Standing fundraising initiatives that would be spearheaded by the committee would include, but not be limited to the letter appeal to businesses (“All Inclusive”), brat fries, Culver’s Night, the annual cheese sales, RC2 trail run, Peanut Sale, Ripon Summer Players, Doug Lyke 5K trail run, Septemberfest Pancake Breakfast, and other club activities that may generate income to the club.
