Becoming involved in a student organization is a great way to enhance your collegiate experience. While you will learn valuable information in your classes, there are just some things you have to experience. Joining a student organization can assist you with the following: • Meet new friends • Time management skills • Engage in community service • Make contact with professionals • Build your resume • Serve as a campus leader All of our organizations on campus have support and guidance provided to them by The University Council of Student Organizations (UCSO), as well as, University Center and Student Activities (USCA) department. how to start a NEW ORGANIZATION. University Center and Student Activities, and Recreational Sports encourage students to form new organizations if there is not a current one that meets their needs or satisfies their interests. In order to start a new organization, please review the following process.

• Meet with University Council of Student Organizations (UCSO) Advisor.

• Recruit 5 members, 3 which will serve as officers. • Recruit a faculty or staff advisor; preferably an advisor sharing the group’s purpose.

• Develop a constitution. This will give the organization some

direction and guidance. It must be submitted and approved by the UCSO Advisor (the UCSO advisor can provide a sample constitution for guidance if needed). • Complete recognition paperwork via OrgSync, our online organization management tool. • A bank account should be established so the organization can collect and deposit dues and request funds from UCSO or Recreational Sports. Note: An organization you are interested in starting may have already existed in the past, but isn’t recognized currently. Please visit the SOC for information about reactivating an organization.
