STUDENTS’ FORUM By Nooralizah Muhamad, SOASC Library
The Students Forum (also known as Majlis Forum Pelajar) was held on 21 Aug 2014, an event held since 2007 with different themes in Malay and English Language which is organized annually by the Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien College and the Alumni Class of ’64 aiming to nurture the students ‘ confidence in public speaking. This year’s theme “Jenayah Siber Mendominasi Generasi Kita” highlighted last year’s focus on the types, causes and how to overcome and effects of the cybercrime. The participating educational institutions comprised of Menglait Secondary Schools, Masin Secondary School, Katok Secondary School and Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien College. Present as the guest of honour was Awang Cheong Huat Joo, Senior Special Duties Office for Secondary Section of the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education. During the forum, contestants were judged according to their fluency in addressing the issue, character and ability to answer the questions. The judges comprised representatives from the Attorney General’s Chambers and ICT unit officer from the Ministry of Education.

TEAMBUILDING COURSE By Aw Ali Shahbana bin Haji Mohsin, Brunei Museums Library Concept The programme was conducted using the ‘learning by doing’ concept. Participants carried out a few tasks and activities which are enjoyable and focused on ‘fun and joy’.
Introduction The team work is important in nurturing the involvement and harmony towards creating an organization that is cemerlangan, gemilangan dan terbilang . That is the motto of the 3 day 2 nights course at Berakas Forest Reserve from 16-18 Sept 2013. The course started in the morning and ended at night. Various activities were held to test the mind in performing tasks in group work. The training was conducted by the Civil Service Institute and MTA Consultant. A total of 27 personnel from government departments attended the course.

BLA EXCO MEETING ON PRE-CONSAL PREPARATIONS
The meeting was held on 16 March 2015 to discuss Pre CONSAL preparations- on registrations and travel, conference programme, preconference workshops, Brunei Keynote Speaker & conference speakers, CONSAL Regional Publication project, cultural night, 3rd CONSAL XVI Executive Board Meeting and visits.
NATIONAL TEAM A meeting of the National Team of the book Leading Women was held on 26 March 2015, to discuss the work plan and compilation of entries.
CERTIFICATE PRESENTATION BLA President presented certificates to members who successfully completed the 2 day complimentary Info Communication Technology course offered by AITI and Infomars Training Solution on 20-21 Jan 2014 (15 participants), and 27-28 Jan 2014 (7 participants) in Bandar Seri Begawan. The aim of the course was to equip librarians with basic ICT skills. BLA records it appreciation to AITI and Infomars for this opportunity.

WORKING VISIT TO DEWAN BAHASA DAN PUSTAKA BRUNEI LIBRARY By Nur Rahidah Haji Abdul Ghani, Pusat Dakwah Islamiah Library On 13 October 2014, a group of 8 librarians from the Ministry of Religious Affairs made a working visit to the DBP Brunei Library. The group was led by Dayang Amal Syukriyah binti Haj Abdul Kahar. Among the aim of the visit was to strengthen working relations among the 2 libraries and they learnt about the system used administration and services and to exchange views and understanding on e-Library system used by local libraries. We were taken on a tour of the different sections. During the visit a briefing on the history, services, library promotion was delivered by Aw Hadiyatullah bin Haji Yahya, Assistant Library Officer. Also present was Dayangku Hajah Masdiana binti Pengiran Damit , Acting Chief Librarian and other officers.
NEW TITLES DBP Brunei launched the books on 8 April 2015. Sikap Bahasa Generasi Muda Terhadap Bahasa Melyu/Indonesia, Rampak Serantau, Istilah Pengurusan, Istiah Sains Sukan, Istilah Sains Marin, Istilah Tempatan Brunei Brunei Darussalam: Perubatan Obsterik dan Ginekologi.

2 nd BRUNEI STUDENTS’ RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM A total of 120 Bruneian students took part in the event which was held on 24 January 2015, at the Brunei Gallery, SOAS London. This year’s theme was Inspiring Creative Research. Its aim was to inspire and share research of Bruneian students while allowing them to further build up on their networks. The Guest of Honour, Dato Paduka Hj Ali , Deputy Minister at PMO and Chairman of BEDB was welcomed by Muhammad Ayub , Chairman of the event. The event was organized by the Bruneian Postgraduate Society with sponsorship from the Brunei High Commission, Brunei Students Unit, Brunei Students Union and Brunei Investment Agency.

Activities Participants were divided into 5 groups. Each team had to appoint a leader. Discussion sessions between groups and the facilitator before and after each activity were held to solve problems collectively. , More than 10 activities and tasks had to be gone through, among them: : 1. Tangram or Qiqioban race
test one’s mind in solving, problems. Physical mental, spiritual strength as well as emotion strength and energy were needed.
Conclusion In order to carry out a difficult task, we cannot do it alone. We need team members to think collectively in problem solving. As a team, we will gain more ideas, as more heads will result in multiple ideas. Each member hopes other team members will be friendly and cooperative so the daily workload will be managed well.
