Wireless and Mobile Computing for Entertainment Applications (2520293)
This course (ETH course ID 252-0293) pro vides an overview about the wire less IEEE 802 stan dards for wire less com m u ni ca tion and sum m a rizes the state of the art for Wire less LANs, Wire less PANs, and Cel lu lar LTE, in clud ing new top ics such as Wi-Fi mesh net works, cog ni tive ra dio, In ter net-of-Things, au dio com m u ni ca tions and vis i ble light com m u ni ca tion. The course com bines its lec tures with a set of as sign m ents in which stu dents are asked to work with a Java sim u la tion soft ware, some mat lab scripts, and real em bed ded sys tems. The ob jec tive of the course is to learn about the gen eral prin ci ples of wire less com m u ni ca tions, in clud ing physics, fre quency spec trum reg u la tion, and stan dards. Fur ther, the most up-to-date stan dards and pro to cols used for wire less LAN IEEE 802.11, Blue tooth and Wi-Fi, mesh net works, sen sor net works, cel lu lar net works, vis i ble light com m u ni ca tion, and cog ni tive ra dios, are an a lyzed and eval u ated. Stu dents de velop their own add-on mo bile com put ing al go rithms to im prove the be hav ior of the sys tems, us ing a Java-based event-dri ven sim u la tor. We also hand out em bed ded sys tems that can be used for ex per i ments for op ti cal com m u ni ca tion.
