INTERVENTIONS FOR VOCABULARY Word Analysis: Semantic Feature Analysis

Purpose: The student will identify similarities and differences between the meanings of words.

Description: Word Analysis

Materials: 1. Information books about a content topic 2. Student sheet (see attached) 3. Pencil

Procedure/Steps: 1. Provide the student with a student sheet. 2. The student says the name of the first picture in the left column and reads the words across the top row (attributes). 3. Place a check in each attribute box that applies to the word. Use books if necessary. 4. Continue down the grid until all categories and attributes are compared and student sheet is complete.

Evaluation of Effectiveness: Compare vocabulary data before and after the intervention.
